Entrepreneurs are a special breed of dreamer. We know that our dreams, turned into actions, have a real impact on the world in big and small ways. That awareness is why sustainability is a key element of my entrepreneurial vision.
I believe that it is the responsibility of any business leader to seriously consider the impact of their business on society and the global ecosystem. This responsibility includes taking action to mitigate this impact, both inside the business and towards the customer.
I’m proud that the business I founded was amongst the first to recognize the importance of a sustainable approach to fashion. In 2009 we created YOOXYGEN, the first online shop-in-shop dedicated to sustainable fashion and we launched Ecobox™, the first plastic-free fashion e-commerce packaging, made from 100% recyclable materials. In 2017 YOOX NET-A-PORTER GROUP adopted the Fur Free policy excluding all items and accessories made from animal fur. In 2019, NET-A-PORTER launched NET SUSTAIN, a platform to promote and celebrate the brands sold on site that meet the business’ criteria for sustainability in procurement and production.
We’ve taken action inside of the Group too; our buildings have met the maximum energy efficiency certifications and our offices in Italy run on 100% renewable energy.
Can you imagine the impact it could have if one of the e-commerce giants outside of the luxury sector were to make such a commitment?
